“Ride4AIDS,” a one-day HIV/AIDS-benefit bike ride along San Diego’s scenic waterfront will be held Sunday morning, April 3, 2005. Proceeds from the ride will go to the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) AIDS Research Institute (ARI) and to Being Alive San Diego, a non-profit support and service organization for people living with HIV/AIDS.
Participants are offered three options with three different starting times:

The 25-mile route, starting at 8 a.m., includes the 10-mile route with the addition of a hilly bike loop up to the Cabrillo National Monument and back. The 50-mile route, starting at 7 a.m., includes mixed terrain as cyclists travel to Cabrillo National Monument, Mission Bay, up to the UCSD/Torrey Pines area and back.
Fees for the bike ride are $25 for 10 miles, $30 for 25 miles, and $35 for 50 miles. Riders age 8 to 17 years old pay a flat fee of $15 and riders on tandem bikes pay $10.
In 1996, the ARI was established to coordinate the diverse AIDS research and clinical activities on the UCSD campus. Housed within the School of Medicine at UCSD, the ARI serves as a regional resource for HIV and AIDS research and information in the San Diego area. By coordinating and promoting scientific research and exchange within the academic community and the industrial sector, as well as providing clinical resources and education to the community at large, ARI members strive to halt the spread of HIV and AIDS through cutting edge research, innovative clinical trials and public education.
