UC San Diego Health's Bannister Family House offers a welcoming home away from home for patients and their loved ones, providing a peaceful place to rest, recharge and stay close to care.

Conveniently located near the Hillcrest Medical Center, the Bannister Family House features:

• 12 hotel-style guest rooms
• Community kitchen and dining room
• Laundry facilities
• Television room
• Supportive services

Guests are expected to keep all areas clean. A part-time housekeeper cleans the community areas and prepares rooms for guest check-in. Complimentary washers and dryers are available. Fresh linens and towels are provided once a week.

Bannister Family House History

The Bannister Family House in Hillcrest provides a haven of hope and comfort for families with a loved one in long-term or critical care at UC San Diego Health.

In 1994, the late Ralph Bannister's generous donation enabled UC San Diego Health to construct the Bannister Family House so that families would have a place to go when their loved one was in the hospital. Ralph Bannister experienced this need first-hand.

When his wife and daughter were sick in the hospital, Mr. Bannister witnessed countless families sleeping on cold hospital floors with no place to go. He saw the stress and worry on their faces and knew they hadn't slept in a warm bed or had a homemade meal in days or even weeks.

He wanted to provide a home away from home for these families and future generations. The house is named in memory of his late wife, Stella, and his late daughter, Joann.
