General Cancer Support Group

Life is messy and cancer is hard. Our group is a time for patients with any type of cancer to come together for emotional support and to share coping strategies. 

Cancer Caregiver Education and Support Group

Date: Usually first and third Tuesday of the month (see the monthly calendar to verify)
Time: 2 – 3:30 p.m.

Come together for conversation. Take a break and join others to develop connections with other caregivers and share helpful advice and tips. Topics vary each week.

Kids Konnected Education and Support Group

Date: Usually fourth Monday of the month (see the monthly calendar to verify)
Time: 5:30–6:45 (kids); 7–8:15 p.m. (teens)

Support, education, community and understanding for children who have a parent with cancer or whose parent has died from cancer.

Grupo Esperanza ("Hope Group") is a monthly support group for Spanish-speaking, male or female patients with any type of cancer. It is open to the community. The group begins with a guided imagery relaxation exercise, followed by introductions and open discussion and/or a writing exercise.

Breast Cancer Patient Education and Support

Date: Meets monthly, usually on a Wednesday (see the monthly calendar for specific dates)
Time: 2–3:30 p.m.

CLL Education and Support

Date: Usually first Wednesday of every month (see the monthly calendar to verify)

A monthly educational seminar and support group for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Join us to hear from a CLL expert, and share and gain support from other CLL patients. During this seminar you'll:

  • Learn the latest information about CLL research and treatments
  • Discover ways to manage the challenges of cancer
  • Improve your communication skills and relationships
  • Gain strength by connecting with others.
  • Improve the quality of your life

Head and Neck Treatment Education

Writing at Moores

Date: Tuesdays, October 3 – November 21

8-week writing series for people living with or recovering from any type of cancer. Come share the journey - build community, express yourself, your hopes and worries. Writing is a powerful tool for healing available to anyone with a pen and paper in hand. No prior writing experience necessary. Attendance at all sessions is encouraged but not required.

Yoga for Wellness

Date: Usually every Monday (see the monthly calendar to verify)
Time: 11 a.m. – Noon
Location: Moores Cancer Center, foyer of Goldberg Auditorium, second floor

Drop-in "gentle yoga" class for cancer patients, survivors, and family members. This adaptive yoga class is modified to each participant's ability and appropriate for beginners. Wear comfortable clothing, and bring a yoga mat if you are able to use one. 

Expressive Arts Workshop

Create an expression of your cancer experience using a variety of artistic media. It is free for cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers, but registration is required. The sessions focus on self-exploration and self-expression in a safe and non-judgmental, communal environment

Gentle Zumba for Cancer Recovery & Prevention

Together Against Cancer: A Couples Workshop

Dates and Times: Next session is Oct. 7, 2017 (usually offered several times a year; see the monthly calendar to verify)

A workshop for cancer patients, spouses and partners, based on Dr. Sue Johnson’s Emotionally Focused Therapy and her book, "Hold Me Tight." Through presentations, videos of real-life couples and therapist-assisted couples exercises, couples will learn the underlying causes of conflict and feelings of loneliness that dominate their relationship.

Chemo-Immunotherapy Class

Recommended for patients who are receiving or will receive chemotherapy or immunotherapy.

Advance Directives Workshop

This workshop begins with a brief review of California state law as it pertains to who may serve as a surrogate decision maker, what a designated decision maker may and may not do, how to ensure that your designated decision maker will know what your wishes are if you are unable to speak for yourself, and how to put your advance directive in place. During the second portion of the workshop instructors will review the advance directives packet line by line, answering questions along the way. Each attendee will receive an advance directive packet that you may complete during the workshop or afterward.
