“In a career spanning over 30 years, Igor Grant has developed some of the field’s most important research programs in the areas of substance abuse, as well as ground-breaking work with neuropsychological disorders associated with HIV,” said William Perry, Ph.D., NAN president and colleague of Grant’s in the UC San Diego Department of Psychiatry.  “In addition to being an outstanding researcher and clinician, one of the great things about Igor is his ability and willingness to help promote the careers of others,” added Perry.

Two young investigators at UC San Diego were also recognized by the NAN: Steven Woods, PsyD, was awarded the society’s “Early Career Award” and Robin Hilsabeck, PhD, the “Early Career Service Award.”

The field of neuropsychology involves the study, evaluation, and treatment of known and suspected brain disorders using the methods of psychology.  NAN, an organization of more than 3,300 scientist-practitioners, clinicians, and researchers in the field of neuropsychology, was founded in 1975.

Grant has been a professor of psychiatry at UCSD since 1972.  He is Director of the HIV Neurobehavioral Research Center (HNRC), the California NeuroAIDS Tissue Network (CNTN), the University of California Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research (CMCR), the CNS HIV Antiretroviral Therapy Effects Research (CHARTER) and the NIDA-funded program project "NeuroAIDS: Effects of Methamphetamine" Dr. Grant is the founding Editor of the Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society and founding co-editor of the journal AIDS and Behavior.
