Your primary care provider (PCP) is the doctor you visit most for routine screenings, non-emergency care and management of a chronic health condition. If you have an HMO, your PCP is also the person who will refer you to our medical specialists. PCPs serve as your advocate and guide should you need complex, extended multi-disciplinary specialty care.
Why Choose Us?
We are the only academic health care system in San Diego, and ranked among the nation's best in eight medical and surgical specialties by
U.S. News and World Report.
As a UC San Diego Health patient, you can expect exceptional care in a compassionate, welcoming environment and early access to investigational therapies through hundreds of ongoing clinical trials.
For these reasons and others, the selection of your PCP is vitally important to your health and well-being. Don't settle. UC San Diego Health has many exceptional PCPs from which to choose. All are qualified to deliver expert, excellent care.
You should also select a PCP with whom you feel comfortable, can communicate effectively and enjoy a shared approach to health. It's all about relationship, connection and joint decision-making as a foundation for long-term health, mentally and physically. We urge you and your family to find the right "fit," become proactive in your health and come to us with questions. It's the best way to make the most of all we have to offer.
