When to See a Primary Care Provider

Build a long-term relationship with your doctor when you visit them regularly for care. Count on your primary care provider (PCP) for:

• Routine checkups and health screenings
• Preventive care, including flu shots and other vaccinations
• Care of minor illnesses and injuries
• Help with managing chronic health conditions, like diabetes and high blood pressure
• Referrals to specialty care, as needed

Same-Day Appointments, Walk-In Care and Video Visits

Rest assured, at UC San Diego Health, you can get care when you need it — even from the comfort of your home without having to drive to your doctor's office.

• Take advantage of same-day, walk-in care at one of our Urgent Care or Express Care locations. We also offer Express Care Video Visits.
• Some PCPs offer same-day appointments. You can also message your doctor's office through MyUCSDChart, your secure online health tool.
  
• You can also schedule your own video visits online with your PCP. Log in to your MyUCSDChart account, go the Visits menu, click Schedule an Appointment and then select Video Visit: Primary Care.
