Commemorative Program to Honor Alzheimer's Disease Expert Leon Thal to be Held at UCSD March 5

A commemorative tribute to the life and work of internationally respected researcher and UCSD professor and clinician, Leon J. Thal, M.D., will be held on the UCSD campus in La Jolla on Monday, March 5.  Thal died in a plane crash on February 3.  The program, which is open to the public, will begin at 2 p.m. in the Hojel Auditorium at UCSD's Institute of the Americas, located northeast of the corner of N. Torrey Pines Road and Pangea Drive.  Overflow seating will be in the Deutz Room, located near the auditorium.  Limited parking is available at the Pangea parking structure.

Leon J. Thal, M.D.,

Thal served as chair of the UCSD Department of Neurosciences, director of UCSD's Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, director of the multi-center, national Alzheimer's Disease Cooperative Study and as a physician at the Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System. 

In honor of  Thal's commitment to the training of promising neuroscientists, the "Leon J. Thal Educational Fund in Neurosciences" has been established.  Donations to this fund can be made by check  made payable to UC San Diego Foundation, referencing Fund #4467, Thal Educational Scholarship (on memo line of check) and sent to: UCSD Neurosciences Development, c/o Leon J.
