Completed projects:

September 27, 2014 AIDS Walk San Diego

UC San Diego nurses and San Diego State University nursing students teamed up to perform blood glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings. Cardiovascular, diabetic and stroke literature and teaching was provided.

Purpose:

  • Educate/Wellness/preventive measures
  • Increase Awareness
  • Promote UC San Diego Health

Data:
35 people were screened in the course of 4 hours, making this a relatively low key event. Records of individual screening results are available on a data form. The following abnormal results were observed:
Blood pressure > 40/90 – 6 people
Blood glucose > 140 - 3 people (none on diabetic medications)
Total cholesterol > 200 - 7 people
People without primary care providers - 11

All of these people received appropriate literature and health teaching

January 23-25 2015 Stroke Camp

UC San Diego Health provides a 3 day camp to 15 stroke survivors and their 20 caregivers.

Purpose:

  • Educate/Wellness/preventive measures
  • Increase Awareness
  • Promote UC San Diego Health

Data:
Therapeutic weekend retreat for 15 stroke survivors and their caregivers whose lives have been affected by stroke.  Stroke camp is about pampering the caregivers and recognizing the toll strokes takes on them. The camps aim is to bring fun, respite, and renewal to stroke survivors, their families and caregivers.
