As our mothers and new babies recover, we practice family-centered care, where fathers and support people are welcome. We encourage parents to bond with their infants through rooming in and caring for their newborns.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICUs)

Both of our hospitals offer NICUs for babies who need special care, including a Level II Intermediate NICU at UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest and a Level III NICU at Jacobs Medical Center in La Jolla. Our NICUs also offer highly experienced lactation consultants through the Supporting Premature Infant Nutrition (SPIN) program.

We're committed to supporting families who choose to breastfeed. We combine the unique skills of physicians, nurse practitioners, certified lactation consultants and lactation educators to provide support for you and your baby.

Many woman have symptoms of anxiety or depression after childbirth or during pregnancy. Others have questions about whether they can continue previously prescribed medication while pregnant or breastfeeding. Our compassionate experts can recommend safe, effective treatments to help you enjoy this stage of your life.
