Dr. Catheryn M. Yashar is the associate chief medical officer (ACMO) for medical staff affairs. In this role, she oversees the medical staff organization, managing day-to-day operations of the Medical Staff Office.
She also serves as chief of staff for UC San Diego Health Medical Staff, a position for which she has provided leadership and guidance since July 2019. She Remains as chief of staff and will complete her term on June 30, 2021.
Dr. Yashar is also chief of breast radiation services and medical director of the La Jolla radiation oncology clinic.
A professor in the Department of Radiation Medicine and Applied Sciences, Dr. Yashar trains medical students and residents in radiation oncology at UC San Diego School of Medicine. She is active in the School of Medicine and has served as chair of several committiees. She frequently speaks at national and international meetings and is the vice chair of the NCCN uterine and cervical cancer committee, a trustee of the American Board of Radiology, chair of the ASTRO Health Policy Committee and CPT alternate.
Her research interests include techniques that limit irradiation to the normal breast, evaluating IMRT for the treatment of gynecologic cancers, image-guided brachytherapy, accelerated partial breast irradiation, diversity and inclusion, and health policy effects on coding and reimbursement. Her clinical interests include breast and gynecologic cancers and interventional radiation techniques.
Dr. Yashar completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of Michigan Medical School and trained in a gynecologic oncology fellowship at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She completed a second residency in radiation oncology at University of Louisville School of Medicine. Dr. Yashar earned her medical degree from Northwestern University. She is board-certified in radiation oncology.
She actively participates in numerous medcial organizations and societies and is a fellow of the American Society of Radiation Oncology, the American Brachytherapy Society, the American College of Radiology and the American College of Radiation Oncology.
